Club News May 1st, 2015

Just received the below- the GJRU has decided to cancel ALL  games this weekend so no games will be played at all.  Round 3 has been cancelled.  Please let your teams know ASAP.

For minis - we move to Round 4 next weekend Sat 9 May with all Lindfield teams at home - Tryon Upper and Lower fields. The final draw for this will be up on Buddha early this coming week (will advise when) or I will email you the game details if Buddha uploading is delayed. Some of the delay publishing the rest of the season's Minis draw is that Glen has had some teams (from other Clubs) withdraw as late as yesterday!

Juniors - Stayed tuned for next weeks rounds and pray that the rain stops!

Jeans and Jersey is on Saturday night, see link below for tickets.

Mighty 5's is also on, again see the links below.

Slogan winner will be announced hopefully today. Waiting on some committee members to out their vote in... it is so far a close call!

Club News 23rd March, 2015

As you may be aware, LJRC host the Rugby Connect program at Koola on Sunday mornings. Rugby Connect is a specialised rugby program for special needs kids and is run by Sydney Junior Rugby Union with the assistance of the Australian Rugby Union and NSW Rugby. You will often hear the coaches talk about the kids rugby club being called the “Trytons”.

Rugby Connect will commence at Koola Park, Killara on Sunday 3 May 2015 from 9am-10am. The program will run each Sunday during Term 2 and Term 3.

The program is suitable for children of all abilities between the ages of 5 – 17 years. The children will be grouped according to their ability and will participate in skill-based activities aimed at improving their individual skills, coordination, fitness and team work. The children will be professionally coached by people with an understanding of the limitations that children with special needs have.

To ensure these lovely kids enjoy the best possible rugby experience, there is an opportunity for LJRC parents and junior players to volunteer their care and patience to help play with these great kids during the 60 minute session each Sunday. The program has coaches and staff supplied by NSW Rugby Union and therefore the LJRC volunteers are able to assist the coaches with some of the drills while having fun with each of the kids. The emphasis is on helping the kids wherever possible and even if you can only make a few Sunday’s this is still important as the more time we can devote to the Trytons kids, the better the outcomes for the Trytons kids and their family. We understand many of you will be attending games on Sunday all over Sydney, but you will also find that some Sunday mornings may suit you to volunteer some care and guidance for a small part of your week.

We also note a good number of LJRC volunteers who are currently completing their Duke of Edinburgh program who choose to volunteer their time with the Trytons while completing the relevant community service component.

The Trytons players number around 25 and have an amazing attitude to their rugby and a warm sense of humour. If you are at Koola on Sunday morning, I encourage you to take a look at the western corner of Koola Park near the road and see the kids and volunteers in action.

If there is any LJRC player or parent who is interested in helping out for 1 hour on Sunday mornings (or every couple of weeks), please make contact with me via email or phone. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

These amazing young men played in a U12's 7's tournament organised by Manly. It was at Bantry Bay in Seaforth on March 14th. There were 4 pools of 3 teams, which came from the North Shore. Lindfield Junior Rugby Clubtopped their group with a win over Seaforth and Manly scoring 13 tries conceding only 1. We played Chatswood in the Semi where we won 3-2, and then the Final against Forest winning 8-0. Well done lads! Epic effort and and a finish under lights!
